My son Thomas and I like stories. It started with me telling him stories when he was just a baby. Sometimes stories were the only thing that made him sit still. We eventually graduated from stories to books. We loved reading early picture books together. Our favorites were Piggy and Gerald, Horton Hatches and Egg, and the Pigeon Books.
As he got older we moved to chapter books. But we had a hard time finding books that we both enjoyed. The books he liked were too silly to for me and the books I like were too serious for him.
One day we in the car listening to a book a tape of an author I won’t name. Some kids travelled back in time to meet great scientist who gave them the advice to “do your best.” I complained to Suzanne, my wife, about the book. She told me to do better. So, Thomas and I set out to do better.
The first book we wrote together is The Lost Island of Pirates, Curses, and Dinosaurs. I did the writing but Thomas has some great ideas. For instance, the name of the dinosaur, Joobie, was Thomas’ idea. I don’t have a middle name. The Thomas in Aaron Thomas Bonsall is in recognition of his contribution.
